Why do you need my National Insurance number?

The law asks every platform that takes payments to share what its sellers earn with HMRC. It is not a new tax.

Updated

Since 2024, UK law has asked every online platform that takes payments for its sellers to tell HMRC what they earned through it once a year. That includes eBay, Etsy, Vinted and Airbnb, and FeelPretty too.

It is not a new tax. If you already declare your income, nothing changes. Your first £1,000 of trading income each year is tax-free under the trading allowance.

We only ask once you have taken £250 through FeelPretty in a year. Money clients pay you in person is not part of that.

It takes a minute. You add your National Insurance number (or your company number, if you trade as a company) on our payment processor's secure page, the same one you used to set up payouts. Your name, date of birth and address come from what you gave them then.

We never see it. The number goes to our payment processor and stays with them. FeelPretty does not store it.

Nothing is paused. Your bookings and payouts carry on as normal. If you have not added it, we will remind you, twice at most.

Each January we send HMRC the totals you took through FeelPretty in the year before, and we send you a copy of exactly what was reported.
